## COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is the third course in the first year graduate algebraic topology sequence. We will give an introduction to vector bundles, characteristic classes, and spectral sequences. We will start with some general concepts and results about fiber bundles and vector bundles, then we will move to topics like topological K-theory, Stiefel--Whitney classes, Chern classes, Pontryagin classes, and Chern--Weil theory. We will conclude the course with the Leray--Serre spectral sequence.
