JOHN TODD INSTRUCTORSHIPS IN MATHEMATICS
The Olga Taussky - John Todd Instructorships in Mathematics are
offered to persons within three years of having received the Ph.D. who show strong
research promise in one of the areas in which Caltech's mathematics faculty is currently
active:
- Algebraic Geometry/ Number Theory
- Analysis/Dynamics
- Combinatorics
- Finite and Algebraic Groups
- Geometry/Topology
- Logic/Set Theory
- Mathematical Physics
Initial appointments are for two years with a one-year terminal extension expected. The position includes a $3,000 per year research fund.
There are three terms in the Caltech academic year. In the past Instructors have been
expected to teach one course in all but two terms of the total appointment. These two
terms will be devoted to research. In addition, the summer may be used for a one-month
vacation, research, and other scholarly activities.

HARRY BATEMAN RESEARCH
INSTRUCTORSHIPS IN MATHEMATICS
The Bateman Research Instructorships in Mathematics are offered to
recent Ph.D. recipients who show strong research promise in one of the areas in which Caltech's mathematics faculty is currently
active:
- Algebraic Geometry/ Number Theory
- Analysis/Dynamics
- Combinatorics
- Finite and Algebraic Groups
- Geometry/Topology
- Logic/Set Theory
- Mathematical Physics
In the past Instructors have been expected to
teach one course for the full academic year and to devote the rest of their time to
research.
Appointments are for one year and are renewable for two additional years. The academic year runs from approximately October 1 to June 1. During the summer months, there are no duties except research.

SENIOR
RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN MATHEMATICS
A Senior Research Fellowship in Mathematics
(either Divisional or Scott Russell Johnson) is offered to a candidate within six years of having received the Ph.D. who shows strong
research promise in one of the areas in which Caltech's mathematics faculty is currently
active:
- Algebraic Geometry/ Number Theory
- Analysis/Dynamics
- Combinatorics
- Finite and Algebraic Groups
- Geometry/Topology
- Logic/Set Theory
- Mathematical Physics
The initial appointment is for three years with an additional three-year terminal extension expected. The position includes a $6,000 per year research fund. This position is being offered if funds are available.
There are three terms in the Caltech academic year. In the past the fellow
has been expected to teach one course in two terms each year, and is expected to be in residence
even during terms when not teaching.
