Lectures will take place during 9 - 9:55 AM every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in 151 Sloan. The lectures will cover roughly the same material as in the text, but may have a different emphasis and presentation. To be specific, we will deal mainly with Group Theory, and treat most of the topics in Part I of the text. |
|
Grading: There will be a Midterm and a Final examination; each will be a timed (3 hour) take-home exam. The homework will count towards 40% of the final grade, while the midterm and Final will each count towards 30%. Homework Policy: The solutions for the homework problems must be turned in every Tuesday by 4 PM in the marked box outside room 253 Sloan. Homework will occasionally be accepted a day or two, but no more, after the due date but only at the TA's discretion, and only if arrangements have been made in advance with the TA. If it is health related, the student will need to furnish a letter from the appropriate person. Regarding
the Homework assignments, only the problems in bold (like 2)
will need to be turned in, though it is advisable to do (or at least
try) all of the problems. Working jointly with others is permitted,
even encouraged, but the writing has to be done individually. The
graded homeworks will be returned by Friday each week. |
