| Homework:
Due
in
the
boxes outside room 253 Sloan on Monday at 3:00 pm with a
cover sheet. Graded homework papers can be picked up from the TA
during recitation on Thursday. Otherwise your homework will be in
envelopes in a box at the bottom of the shelves (below other Math 2b
boxes).
At the discretion of the TA, if notified BEFORE the
homework is due, late homework is accepted at most once during the term
and extensions recommended by the Dean's Office or Health Center will
also be considered. Note that fatigue, forgetfulness, etc. are
not generally grounds for accepting late homework. Late exams will not
be accepted except under exceptional circumstances, such as prolonged
illness and a note from a Dean. Up
to
one
week
late, a
reduction of 25% of the score will be recorded. After one week, ZERO
credit. (Lowest score is dropped)
Homework will generally be posted on Mondays and due in section boxes the following Monday. There will be about 8 assignments, and your lowest score will be dropped in the final grade. Grading: 4/9ths based on weekly problem sets, 2/9ths on midterm, 3/9ths on final exam. Collaboration policy: "Live" collaboration is encouraged, but using another person's written solutions to see how to do a problem is not allowed. In any case you must write up your own solutions "in your own words". Recitations: Go to the recitations! Each week, a portion of the recitation will be dedicated to introducing some computational (or even theoretical) aspect which the Instructor will not have time to present in class. In general, get to know your TA and bug him/her to death (figuratively speaking) with your questions, and try to fill in all the holes in your understanding of the subject. |
